Tucson Meet Yourself – Encounter
New this year I will be participating solo as part of an “Encounter“. “What’s that”, you ask?
Encounters are moments when artists from different cultures come together in conversation and demonstration to explore connections between their practices. These curated segments will explore a variety of topics. These could include how waila and ballet folklorico dances are similar and different; what it means to carry on a tradition for your community; how accordion is important in polka and norteño; or, how dancers’ gestures tell stories in Hawaiian hula and Indian classical dance. As curator, I will initiate these conversations; I or another designated person will guide these conversation/demonstrations onstage during the festival.
Tucson Meet Yourself is one of Tucson’s biggest events of the year! Music, dance, visual art and food!
Sunday, October 6
12-12:45pm
Alameda Stage (intersection of Alameda St. and Stone Ave.)
I will be joined by several other musicians for this panel discussion/encounter. More details as they become available.
