I call this one Banjo Basics. That means we work on you clawhammer mechanics instead of just tunes. We will use a couple of basic tunes as vehicles to visit and improve all of our clawhammer skills. Double thumb, drop thumb, hammers, pulls and more. If time and skill allow we will even work on making at tune you own by using these techniques to add style and variety to your playing.

Dan Levenson and Gina Faber play tunes and songs for you as you enjoy the fine wines of this remarkable place! With fiddle, clawhammer banjo, mandolin and guitar (no, not all at once! LOL) enjoy the sounds as you taste the wines. I am told that their Chardonnay pairs especially well with A tunes and the red goes very nicely  in D. Rose’ and desert wines goes with just about any key!

Their website tells us: New Market Plains Vineyards is located on the former estate of Nicholas Hall, Sr., the co-founder of New Market, MD. Our farm has remained in the family since the 1760’s. Vineyards were replanted in 2012 with a first vintage of 2014. Planted varieties include Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Muscat Blanc, Petit Verdot and Syrah.

It has been quite a while since I have put on a full weekend Clawcamp but thanks to Peter Jackson, I am doing it in Grand Rapids/Grand Haven, Michigan.

Starting with a Friday evening meet and great and working through until about Noon on Sunday we will get to cover all aspects of Clawhammer banjo. Starting with the review of the basics, we will cover the right hand, left hand, several tunings, and play tunes old and new with at least one session spent on making that tune your own while still staying true to the Old Time Way!
